Organizations that help immigrants, refugees, and those in need

In an effort to feel less helpless, I thought it might be useful to put together a list of organizations that can aid those in need. I'm going to list a few in the greater Buffalo area that I know do good work, and I hope that if you see this, you'll comment with your own charitable organizations. I'll try to edit and add on groups as information comes in.

Providence Farm Collective

Journey's End Refugee Services

Rural Outreach Center

And here are a few more, with thanks to friends:

Lakota People's Law Project

Craft Emergency Relief Fund

Beautiful Day Rhode Island

The Young Center

Trans Lifeline

Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services of Connecticut

RAICES

New American Pathways

And one for voting rights:

Southern Poverty Law Center

Got some words out, made some progress

I wrote quite a few poems this month--one of the new ones is up on my Patreon page now--and finished most of a short story. It's at 4500 words at the moment, and I know how it ends. The main character's emotional arc suddenly became clear (I tend to have to write my way to that; inefficient, I know). That will require some rewriting once I have a draft done, but I don't mind so much when I know where I'm going.

I've updated my progress on Get Your Words Out. Twenty-six days of writing, plus some creative stuff that I didn't count because it was not writing. Good stuff.

New Year, New . . . Plan?

Last year was kind of a horror show in a bunch of not-fun ways. I've got hopes that 2023 will be a bit less actively malevolent, and one of my goals is to recapture some of the joy in writing that's been lost as I've slogged through. I'm definitely happier and better adjusted when I'm writing regularly, so it's worth the effort. But I've lost some of what made me write in the first place, so it's time to dig in, focus on process and learning, and have a year that's successful by new metrics.

I've joined up with Get Your Words Out thanks to Celli's recommendation. If you're working on a goal or have big plans and dreams for 2023, let me know so I can cheer you on!
